Recital Week Details 2025

Happy Mother’s Day to our JCSD Families!

We hope it’s been a sweet day for each of you. It’s recital week, and we want you to feel prepared for rehearsals and shows. The recital page on our website remains the best place to review details (costume extras, hair, makeup, arrival times, etc.), but we’re going to provide a little bit more for you here! If we don’t answer your questions in this post, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Classes: Only Tiny Twos and Women’s Yoga will meet this week. The rest of the classes have rehearsals and shows (not regular classes)! The week after the recitals will be the final week of classes for the 2024-25 year, and we’ll be celebrating a fabulous year!

Rehearsals: Class will be on stage Tuesday or Wednesday to run through their dances in full costume with hair and makeup complete. The time listed in the newsletter is the arrival time. Plan to stay about an hour per style (except Acro, which has a rehearsal including an important warmup time).

  • At least one parent per Level IB or younger dancer is asked to remain in the Sanctuary for the entire dress rehearsal. Level II+ dancers may attend on their own, but parents are still welcome to come along.
  • You are welcome to take pictures and videos throughout the rehearsal. Each class will hold its ending pose for just a bit, allowing for some fun pictures.
  • Once your child’s class is done on stage, you are welcome to head home!

Drop off for shows: For Level IB and younger classes, please stick to the listed time for drop off before shows. We run a detailed schedule on show days and won’t have our volunteers in place for early drop-offs. If your dancer has any new allergies or medical concerns or you have a different emergency contact number for the show days, please make these notes by responding to this email or at check-in.

Tickets: We still have a few tickets available for the Thursday and Saturday shows. The Friday show is sold out. But the good news is that we have lots of tickets available for the Sunday show! We’d love a full house for this show, too.

Costume tags: Please label each of your dancer’s stage attire, water bottle, etc. Things can get mixed up easily back stage!

Show Orders: We now have the show orders ready for you to see! You’ll find them here. If your dancer has more than one class in a show, please look at the order to determine which costume to wear to the studio. The other costume(s) should come in the costume bag with all needed additions (tights, shoes, etc.) in it.

Quick Change: Please review the show orders to see if your dancer has a quick change (one class between dances) or a semi-quick change (two classes between dances). If so, our quick change team asks that your dancer practice putting on costume #1, then taking it off, then putting on costume #2. They will have at least two people helping them switch costumes during the show, but knowing how their costumes fit is so helpful.

No nail polish or jewelry (except studs).

Cell phones: To keep our dancers engaged with one another during the shows, we’ll be encouraging them to find places for their phones on the “cell phone daycare” table outside Studio 1. They are welcome to check their phones throughout their time at the studio.

Food: Please feed your dancer a good meal before call time. Level IB and younger dancers will be offered Goldfish and fruit snacks during their time backstage. We’ll have pretzels (because they won’t stain costumes) for our older dancers if they get hungry. And as usual, we’ll have other snacks available for purchase, but we will ask our dancers to refrain from eating during the show.

Parking: Please note that parking will be available all week along the streets and in the gravel lots connected to the church but not across from the main studio doors.

Early Release: We are offering early release of our creative and pre-level dancers at intermission during Shows 1 and 2 if requested in advance (by responding to this email or letting us know at check-in). We are aware that evening shows can be hard on some young dancers who are used to early bedtimes, and we want to make the recital experience a good one! You are also welcome to have your little dancer sit on your lap during the second half if he/she wants to experience the show from the audience. Dancers who remain backstage through the show will be bowing at the end of their show with the rest of the classes!

Student Pick-up: After the shows, level II/III/IV dancers may leave after checking out with a staff member. Level IB and younger dancers will be released one class at a time out the double doors between the west wing and the cafeteria. Please send just one parent to pick-up. We then encourage you to return to the Sanctuary or the photo area to celebrate with your guests.

Sunday call time: We ask that dancers arrive at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. The classes performing are Ballet III/IV, Pointe I/II, Ballet IIB, Modern IIA, Modern IIB, Modern IIIB/IV, Jazz IIA, Jazz IIB, Jazz III/IV, Acro IIA, Acro IIB, Acro III, Hip Hop IIA, Hip Hop IIB, Hip Hop III, Hip Hop IV. In addition, our staff, apprentices, and three seniors will be performing.

Sunday reception: Plan to stay for a bit after the Sunday show for the cookie reception to celebrate our seniors and the end of the year!

We are so excited for this week! If you have any questions or concerns, please let me (Jaime) know. I can be reached at 541.968.9529.

On behalf of Amy Baker and the staff of JCSD, thank you for being part of this year’s Believe recital. We’ll see you soon!
