Pre-Modern
Young dancers are introduced to the beautiful art form that pushes the boundaries and ways of thinking dance should be. It was created out of the desire not to be perfect. It’s emotional, expressive and authentically beautiful. In Pre-Modern dancers will get their first look at the exploration of time, space, energy, rhythm, and shape while gaining an understanding of the body and how it moves.
Modern IA & IB
In this introductory class, dancers will explore the core elements of modern technique—time, space, energy, rhythm, and shape—while developing body awareness and understanding how movement is initiated. Through guided exercises and improvisation, students will build strength, creativity, and emotional expression. The class also includes an introduction to the history and pioneers of modern dance, offering context and inspiration for the movement explored. Modern IB is by placement only.
Modern IIA & IIB (placement only)
In these classes, dancers will build upon the fundamentals learned in level I (exploration of time, space, energy, rhythm, and shape), while deepening their understanding of expression and artistry. Modern can be either lyrical or contemporary based upon the teacher’s choice and/or desire. Dancers will continue to learn more about the history of modern dance and the heroes who have made it what it is today.
Modern IIIA, IIIB/IV (placement only)
In Modern III and IV classes, dancers will deepen their exploration of the concepts of time, energy, space and rhythm with continued learning of where each of the movements are coming from physically. Dancers will continue to learn about the history of modern dance and the heroes who have made it what it is today.
Leaps & Turns (Level IIB+, non-performing)
This technique-focused class is designed to help dancers build, refine, and master a variety of leaps and turns through proper sequencing, strength, and alignment. Emphasis is placed on body awareness, core engagement (both front and back), and initiating movement from the correct muscle groups for safe and effective execution.
