Hip Hop Class Descriptions
Hip Hop IA & IB
This class teaches the fundamentals of hip hop in a fun, energetic atmosphere. For the 2021-22 dance year, Hip Hop IA (first year) will be offered 4-5 p.m. Wednesday and Hip Hop IB (second year) will be 4-5 p.m. Tuesday.
Hip Hop II
This class begins to break down the different styles of hip hop, which include basic grooves, breaking, hitting, locking, tutting, waving, and more. The dancer will learn the fundamentals of breaking and basic stunts, while building his or her confidence as a performer. For the 2021-22 dance year, this class will be offered 5-6 p.m. Tuesday.
Hip Hop III/IV (placement only)
Building upon level II, this class explores more urban street styles such as locking, popping, krump and funk. The dancer will learn to find his or her own personal style through freestyle exercises and build confidence as a performer. Hip Hop III/IV explores the history and current styles of this genre. The dancer will learn intricate combinations and advanced hip hop choreography. For the 2021-22 dance year, this class will be offered 6-7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Popping and/or Poplocking is a form of Robotic and fluid movements. This class will introduce “Popping” at its core fundamentals. Hitting, waving, gliding, tutting, etc. are some of the core fundamentals that will be taught and will directly lead into our choreography for the term. For the 2021-22 dance year, this class will be offered 6-7:10 p.m. Monday.
